He was football's first superstar and his fans considered it a tragedy when he walked out on Manchester United in 1972 at the age of 27. Best had it all, superb balance, two good feet, brilliant dribbling skills, a powerful shot, he was even good in the air. The sixties were Best's heyday, he won the a Championship medal twice, a European Cup medal and in 1968 was the European Footballer of the Year. Best's decline is well documented, but ultimately he should be remembered for what he was - a footballing genius.

SWEDEN 1950S: Sweden 50's Long before Sven came to the FA, the FA sent Yorkshireman George Raynor to coach Sweden and this is the shirt designed, reputedly, by Raynor and Putte Kock before the Swedish side left Stockholm for the London Olympiad of 1948. Pride was stitched into the flag as the famous 'Gre-No-Li' triumverate of Gunnar Gren, Gunnar Nordahl and Nils Liedholm swept their way to Gold: a beautifully pure triumph against Yugoslavia. Raynor's side took the shirts to Brazil for the 1950 World Cup where they finished in third place and then again to the Helsinki Olympics where they gained the Bronze. But of all the many triumphs, Raynor's proudest moment was when Sweden beat England 3-2 in 1959. Abyssmally overlooked by English administrators Raynor, a World Cup runners' up medal in his pocket (1958), would end his managerial days sacked by Skegness Town!
